Dan Torosian was born in New York in 1958 and learned piano and trumpet starting in elementary school. He continued to play, primarily trumpet, until the 80's when he switched to saxophone. Dan then began playing in R&B bands and doing studio work. Since moving to Austin in 1990 he has played with Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes, The Atlantics, Marcia Ball, Alejandro Escovedo, Tedd Roddy, Johnny Nicholas' Texas All Start, Monster Big Band (also writer/arranger) and the Austin Symphony (big band and pops shows).
Dan has a Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry from Harvard and a Masters Degree in Music Composition form Southwest Texas State. He has also done studio and performance work on all the saxophones, clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, piccolo and keyboards. Dan has worked extensively as an arranger. From 2006-2013 he taught Beginner Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra and private instruction at St. Stephen's Episcopal School, and currently teaches at St. Edward's University.
