Anna Harris is a pianist, violinist and guitarist in her hometown Austin Texas. She also teaches voice lessons at our South Austin location. Her maternal grandparents planted the seeds of her musical roots, as both were pioneers in the Austin music scene. After a decade of classical piano training she turned her attention to the violin, and studied with Eugene Gratovich at the University of Texas at Austin.
Throughout college and beyond, Anna played in multiple symphonies in the Central Texas area. After earning a BA in history, she honed her skills as a fiddle player and has toured most recently in Nashville, Birmingham and New York City. Though she loves to play with a wide variety of artists (Susan Gibson, Grace Pettis, India Ramey, Don Coyote and the critically acclaimed Steel City Jug Slammers, to name a few) she is also a singer-songwriter who composes and performs under her own name.
Anna's style of teaching involves a basic understanding of music theory and musicianship, combined with cultivating a well-trained-musical ear. This hybrid approach is not only vital to her educational vision, it’s fun. "Skills are super important,” says Anna, “but in my opinion developing a strong musical intuition is critical to well-rounded musical instruction.” Due to the breadth of her training and musical experience, Anna teaches performance in country, pop, rock and classical traditions. In addition to teaching piano lessons, guitar and violin instruction, Anna also teaches looping (a technique involving layering sampled sounds to create music via an electronic rig). Additional Instruction techniques include violin looping, improvisation, sight-reading and composition.
