
Matthew Lee

Matthew Lee is an active teacher, performer, and freelancer in Austin, TX. He is a
section member in the Austin Opera Orchestra and the Central Texas Philharmonic, and
he serves as a regular sub for the San Antonio Symphony, Austin Symphony, and
Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestras.
As a soloist and chamber player, Matthew has given numerous recitals throughout the
United States, and has performed in masterclasses for artists such as Augustin
Hadelich, Frank Almond, Laurie Smukler, Tasmin Little, Sibbi Bernhardsson, and more.
He has won numerous awards in solo competitions, including the Texas Music Festival
Concerto Competition, the Brevard Music Center Concerto Competition, and the
University of Wisconsin–Madison Concerto Competition, and has performed in concerts
with the respective orchestras.
Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Matthew received his bachelor’s degree from UW–
Madison, where he studied with Eugene Purdue and Soh-Hyun Park Altino on a full
tuition music scholarship. He then obtained his Master’s and Artist Diploma degrees at
the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied with Sandy Yamamoto.
In his spare time, Matthew is an avid sports fan especially of football and tennis, enjoys
the outdoors, and loves watching movies and TV shows.
